Your Wedding Theme

Not everyone decides to keep to a particular theme for their wedding. However your natural preference will determine your choices, and therefore you may have a general theme and you haven’t even noticed it. Here are a few categories and some examples of styles that work within them.

Modern - Sparkling tiaras made of stunning Swarovski crystals, pearls or rhinestones. These are especially effective for Cinderella brides.

Traditional – Crowns, tiaras or smaller headpieces have long been used in bridal wear. These may be wired or fabric covered foundations, adorned with crystals, beading, silk flowers and a range of other trimmings.

Garden Wedding - Garlands of full blooms worn in a circle on the head, or a less dominant option is the circlet, which is a fabric covered circular shape adorned with lace motifs or smaller flowers.

Informal – Understated styles with minimal fuss. Popular choices are hair ornaments such as silk flowers pinned behind the ear or at the side of a French twist hairstyle. The veil would usually be no longer than waist or fingertip length, or perhaps no veil at all!

Vintage 20s – Fine, double stranded headbands of tiny buds or waxed orange blossom flowers, large flowers worn at both ears, trailing ribbons, cathedral length veils, sometimes with the upper section draped over the head.

Retro 50s – Less common in the current market but nonetheless a fun novelty, the ‘50s epitomized the pillbox hat, which was worn by brides with a blusher length veil and short, smart gloves.

Medieval – Floral garlands or crowns are popular choices. Some brides choose a hooded cloak in place of the modern day veil.

Celtic – Lightweight metal crowns and headpieces decorated with crystals, beading or stones. These designs are often fluid scroll like patterns, sometimes with ivy or other leaves. The veil is sometimes worn loosely on top of the head with no gathering, and the crown sits on top holding it in position.
