Your Basic Face Shape

Brides have long worn specialty bridal headpieces as an elegant accessory that also frames the face. A well-chosen headpiece will be in proportion with the Bride’s face shape and the style of her gown. This will let us highlight the best features of the face and gown as a focal point.

Find your face shape below and view some suggestions of headpiece styles that best suit your individual face shape.

Round

A tiara with a good peak is a great choice for you, because it will add some height which will help to lengthen your face and make it appear a bit narrower.
A crown with a strong peak in the middle is another option to consider, so long as your face is not very wide, in which a tiara would be a better option.
I would avoid covering the forehead with the V-band headpiece. This would make the face appear shorter and fuller. Therefore it is best for you to keep your headpiece away from your forehead to help it appear narrower.
Extra tip for your hairstyle: Your face can also appear lengthened if you part your hair at the centre or side.

Oval

As your face is in beautiful proportion, you have the most flexibility in choosing your bridal headpiece. Almost any style can be worn.
Tiaras or crowns with a slight peak may be used.
Avoid tiara or crowns with an exaggerated peak which will make your face appear long.
Avoid oversized garlands of full heavy blooms which may be overbearing.

Extra tip for your hairstyle: If you choose to wear your hair out in curls or waves, take care to not use too much volume or it may make your face appear too wide. The length of your hair will also affect this.

Heart Shaped or Inverted Triangle Face Shapes

Choose a small headpiece, perhaps with a slight peak at the front.
You are one of the few people who can wear the V-band. This will make your forehead appear less wide.
You may wish to draw attention to your lovely cheekbones by keeping your hair held into place inside a bunwrap.

Avoid using a bulky headpiece such as the garland, as this is likely to make your chin appear small and pointed by comparison.

Triangular

Consider a garland or circlet to balance the width of the upper half of your face.
Another good choice is a full width crown which will make the forehead appear wider.
Single or double wired headbands could also be used for a more subtle or delicate look.

Avoid a tiara with a strong peak, as this will make your forehead appear angular.

Extra tip for your hairstyle: Choose a hairstyle that will build up the width of the top of your head.

Oblong

Short, level headpieces with no peak are an excellent option.
Wide headpieces such as the crown will add some more width.
Consider the circlet or garland which will create an illusion of width.

Avoid headpieces that have a peak at the front, as this will add even more height.

Extra tip for your hairstyle: You can also add width to your face by adding volume to your hair with curls or waves to be left out beside your face.

Square

A tiara or headpiece with a peak is a good choice for you.
An asymmetrical headpiece worn on one side of the head will soften a heavy facial structure.

Avoid garlands, circlets and crowns which will add too much width.
Also avoid headpieces that are very wide across the front of the face.

Extra tip for your hairstyle: Part your hair at the side and sweep it forward across the opposite corner of your forehead for a softer look. You can wear your hair higher on your head to add an illusion of more length.

Rectangular

An asymmetrical headpiece worn on one side of the head will soften a heavy facial structure.
A tiara or small crown with a slight peak are also good options for you.

Avoid any tall headpieces, whether flat or peaked.
Avoid headpieces such as the garland which sit quite horizontally on your head, as this will make your jawline appear block shaped. Instead, choose a headpiece that follows a curve across the top of your head.

Extra tip for your hairstyle: Try to style your hair towards the back of your head to avoid adding unnecessary height.
